what is iron sky?

The Iron Sky franchise began with a single, bold idea: Nazis on the Moon, returning to Earth in flying saucers. What started as a darkly comic internet meme grew into a global phenomenon driven entirely by its fans.

A wildly successful crowdfunding campaign raised over $1 million from more than 10,000 individual supporters worldwide — including more than $600,000 from the original Wreckamovie platform — before raising another $2 million from traditional investors.

Iron Sky launched two full-length feature films. Iron Sky: The Coming Race followed the original, expanding the story underground into a hollow-earth adventure. Main cast of 2 films: Timo Vuorensola and Julia Dietze (Iron Sky 1), Lara Rossi, Vladimir Burlakov and Tom Green (Iron Sky 2).

who made iron sky?

Iron Sky is a Finnish-born production, even though the films were shot across Germany, Australia, Belgium, and a handful of other locations worldwide. Both films were directed by Timo Vuorensola and produced by Tero Kaukomaa, together with several international producing partners. Samuli Torssonen was in charge of the award-winning Visual Effects of the first film.

what happened to iron sky?

The company that owned the Iron Sky IP, Iron Sky Universe, entered bankruptcy proceedings in 2021. The rights were later purchased by a party unrelated to the original filmmakers, effectively bringing the saga to an end. The challenges surrounding the production of Iron Sky: The Coming Race are documented in detail in Tuomas Tuppurainen's feature documentary, Shoot For The Moon.

Although the Iron Sky storyline is no longer continuing, the core filmmakers — Timo Vuorensola, Tero Kaukomaa, and Samuli Torssonen — are expanding their trademark blend of dark comedy, conspiracy lore, and political satire in an all-new universe: the Deep Red trilogy! Here's the first announcement video of the upcoming trilogy.
